19th century dandies wore carnations on their lapel. Visually, the flower is very crinkly; the edges of the petals saw-toothed. As stated by Mr. Lutens, the flower’s “petals, laced with tiny teeth” are “a burst of fragrant spikes.” In scent, carnation is actually rather spicy and not really a 'flowery' flower. This angry carnation, a nod to these gentlemen of the late 1800s, is softened by the other notes; giving it an elegance and touch of refinery. Clove, carnation, hot pepper, gillyflower, wallflower, lily, ylang-ylang
